Owney's journeys even took him overseas! In 1895, he accompanied mailbags on a steamship to Asia, traveling to places like Japan and China before returning to the United States, laden with even more mementos.
Sadly, Owney's remarkable life on the rails eventually came to an end. But his legacy lived on. After his passing, his body was preserved and put on display at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, where he continues to delight and inspire visitors today.
